REDUCERS
Reducers are an important component of any paint system and should be chosen carefully based on the anticipated shop conditions at the time of application. Using the wrong type of reducer, or choosing an inappropriate reducer based on temperatures may lead to application defects.

Kirker Automotive Finishes manufactures an assortment of reducers for its different paint systems. Following is a quick reference guide to help you make the right decision about which reducers to use.

URETHANE REDUCERS

While Kirker’s urethane reducers are not required in ULTRA-GLO acrylic urethane paint systems, users may add up to 10% of the appropriate temperature urethane grade reducer to each gallon of sprayable ULTRA-GLO paint. Urethane reducers are also used in Kirker’s PERFECT PRIME, RAPID PRIME and ENDURO-PRIME primers as well as in MIRACLEAR II, VISIONCLEAR and ZOOM CLEAR urethane clears. Temperature and humidity, as always, determine which reducer to use.

UR-9065 Urethane Reducer (Fast) Below 65 ° F

UR-9075 Urethane Reducer (Medium) Between 65 ° and 85 ° F

UR-9085 Urethane Reducer (Slow) Above 85 ° F

ACRYLIC ENAMEL REDUCERS

While Kirker’s Acrylic Enamel Reducers are designed specifically for use in ACRYL-GLO acrylic enamel paints, they also should be used to reducer Super Rust Stop non-sanding primers. Temperature and humidity, as always, determine which reducer to use.

R-7910 Acrylic Enamel Reducer (Fast) Below 70 ° F

R-7911 Acrylic Enamel Reducer (Medium) Between 70 ° and 85 ° F

R-7912 Acrylic Enamel Reducer (Slow) Above 85 ° F

SYNTHETIC ENAMEL REDUCERS
Kirker’s Synthetic Enamel Reducers are designed for us in SYN-GLO synthetic enamel paints. Temperature and humidity, as always, determine which reducer to use.

R-8250 Synthetic Enamel Reducer (Fast) Below 60 ° F

R-8253 Synthetic Enamel Reducer (Medium) Between 60 ° and 90 ° F

R-8256 Synthetic Enamel Reducer (Slow) Above 90 ° F

UE-8000 Universal VOC-Exempt Reducer
A blend of VOC-exempt solvents, this universal reducer was designed to be used in topcoats, primers, clearcoats and other systems which call for reduction in regions with especially low VOC limits.

LACQUER THINNERS
Kirker’s premium-quality low V.O.C. lacquer thinners are designed for use in lacquer primer surfacers and are also widely used as clean up items. Temperature and humidity, as always, determine which reducer to use in Kirker’s Acrylic Lacquer High Build Primer Surfacers

R-300 Low V.O.C. Acrylic Lacquer Thinner (Medium) Between 70 ° and 85 ° F

R-304 Low V.O.C. Acrylic Lacquer Thinner (Slow) Below 70 ° F

R-305 Low V.O.C. Acrylic Lacquer Thinner (Fast) Above 85 ° F

R-6820 SELF-ETCHING REDUCER
Self-Etching Reducer is designed to be used to reducer Kirker’s SPO-323, Zinc Primer, but also may be used as a bare metal conditioner when wiped onto a substrate with a clean rag immediately before applying primer. The phosphoric acid in this product etches into metal substrates, preparing them for a mechanical bond with the primer coating.
